Rameswaram, (also spelt as Ramesvaram, Rameshwaram) is a town and a second grade municipality in the Ramanathapuram district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is on Pamban Island separated from mainland India by the Pamban channel and is about 40 kilometres from Mannar Island, Sri Lanka. The temple was expanded during the 12th century by Pandya Dynasty, and its principal shrines sanctum were renovated by Jeyaveera Cinkaiariyan and his successor Gunaveera Cinkaiariyan of the Jaffna kingdom. The temple has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India. The temple is located in Rameswaram considered a holy pilgrimage site for Shaivites, Vaishnavites and Smarthas.

1.Pamban Bridge:

" Pamban Bridge is a railway bridge which connects the town of Rameswaramon Pamban Island to mainland India. Opened on 24 February 1914, it was India's first sea bridge, and was the longest sea bridge in India until the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in 2010. The rail bridge is, for the most part, a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers, but has a double-leafbascule section midway, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. Until 1988, the Pamban bridge was the only surface transport that connected Tamil Nadu's island of Rameswaram to the mainland.Pamban Bridge is a railway bridge which connects the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. "

2.Ramar patham Ram zarukka, Ramsaranpathu:

Ramar Padham is a Temple for Ram’s Feet, it is  Situated in the sandy hillock named Gandha Madhana parvatham (The village where this temple is located is also called as Gandha Madhana Parvatham). The word Parvatham Literally meant Mountain, as per the reference  in the epic Ramayana , there was a  mount in this place in the ancient times. The feet of Lord Rama is engraved in a stone chakra in this place. The Ramar padham is the highest point in the Rameswaram, one can see the full panoramic view of Rameswaram island by standing on the top of this Temple.

3.Adam's Bridge:

Adam's Bridge (Tamil: ātām pālam; Sinhala: adamgay palama), also known as Rama's Bridge or Rama Setu (Tamil: Irāmar pālam, Sanskrit: rāmasetu),is a chain of limestone shoals, between Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island, off the south-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, India, and Mannar Island, off the north-western coast of Sri Lanka. Geological evidence suggests that this bridge is a former land connection between India and Sri Lanka .

4.Rama Teertham:

The Ram Teertham in Rameshwaram is a very popular religious site. The clean temple is maintained by the concerned authorities in a very hygienic manner. You can also get a chance to feed the fish in the waters inside the temple. The temple lies in close concurrence to the Lakshman Tirtham and Sita Tirtham. The Temple is devoted to Lord Rama, a very relevant figure in the Indian mythology. There is also a pond within the temple where Lord Ram is said to have washed his hair .

5.Agni Theertham:

The eastern sea shore opposite to the Ramanathaswamy temple is named as Agni theertham. This is one of the 64 sacred baths in Rameswaram (theerthams). Every day thousands of pilgrims take bath in this holy sea

6. Dhanushkodi Temple:

Dhanushkodi is located on the tip of Pamban Island separated by mainland by Palk strait and the distance from Rameshwaram to Dhanushkodi is around 20 km. It is just 29 km away from Talaimannar of Sri Lanka. 

7. Kothandaramaswamy Temple:

The temple is situated 12 km away from Rameshwaram. The walls of the temple have beautiful paintings inscribed on them. Athi Maram is one of the oldest trees located in the temple and there is a temple tank named after sage Bhringhi. This temple is surrounded by the Bay of Bengal Ocean. It is preferable to visit the temple in the early morning otherwise the temple gets crowded.

8.Ariyaman Beach:

Ariyaman beach is located 27 km away from the city. It extends to a stretch of 2 km. Gentle waves, and the clean environment of this beach attracts lots of people, not only tourists and travelers, but also the Rameswaram, and Ramanathapuram locales. Parasailing is a famous activity at this beach, which is done using a parachute and controlled by a moving boat. This beach also features children's park, watch tower and water-based attractions like wind surfing and water scooters. Tourists can also visit the aquarium and museum near the beach. Dormitories and cottages are available near this beach. Around 5000 people visit this Beach on weekends and on festival days.

9.Water Bird Sanctuary:

Water Bird Sanctuary of the Ramanathapuram District is one of the best places to visit for bird watchers. The Sanctuary is located 11 km away from Rameshwaram. This sanctuary features numerous water birds during north-east monsoon season between October to January. The sanctuary has both native as well as migratory birds that come here for feeding and breeding.
